STATEMENT OF INTENT
For my Magazine front cover and content pages I will use media language to create a brand identity of urban clothing to appeal to my target demographic of a culturally sophisticated, 16-25 class AB demographic. This will hopefully reflect the industry context wanted by Bauer Media (relentlessly relevant to the communities we inspire and connect with). I need to make sure that the magazine fulfils Bauer Media’s need to remain the number one conglomerate in publishing, I will do this by making my image standout. The image will be central featuring 1 male model with the background as a cloudy sky and one male Model with the background location of an urban brick wall. My first model will be positioned in a slick slanted way to show of the fashion he is wearing which will give a confident friendly mode of address to my target audience as they are interested in the fashion I am portraying. I will make my second model stand out by doing a medium close up shot in which he will be wearing a fashion hoodie which brand is trending. The cover lines will show articles about fashion, Celebrities, and Trending Brands which should connect and aspire with 16-25 year olds demographic. The brands on my cover lines will connect closely with the model to reinforce my house style. The layout and design of my magazine cover will reinforce the house style of the front cover, using an urban background and the same font and colour of the text and images. The Masthead will have a bold text to make it stand out from the background and the other text on the front cover. In terms of representation, I will use a Black male in their teens and white male as the focal points, which also shows Diversity. This would connect closely with demographic of class AB 16-25 year olds.
My content pages will be extremely bold with the Number pages in a large bold text to sustain the reader’s attention with the like of two images on the two pages of different urban clothing to reinforce the audiences’ attraction to their clothing and fashion. The content will be filled with fashion trends, celebrities and Music which are the main subjects most of my demographic are attracted too.
My other main hope for the planned website is that it will give the target audience updatable and breaking fashion news, as well as fashion reports and advice which the fixed monthly magazine cannot do, these will be changed constantly to keep abreast of social and cultural happenings. For my website I aim to have links/articles to Drake who is popular amongst my demographic and an article link to the top trending trainers of 2018 suited towards both boys and girls.
I must also remember that visual elements on webpages are also designed to seize and sustain the reader’s attention because images are used to bring a sense of immediacy to the audience, this will be true of my website where I will use a young black male at the top of the website and a white male at the bottom which will reflect the diversity demands of the Brief.
The design I want to implement will follow this convention. To do this I will use a mixture of grey and white and black being the colour of intellect, knowledge, and wisdom and a colour which is perceived as long-lasting classic, sleek and refined. This will be combined with the flashes of colour that my articles will have, in doing this I will hopefully have a website which will appeal to a culturally sophisticated, 16–25 class AB demographic.
A media product must have a highly appropriate and consistent brand image across products, a branding which demonstrates and highlights that the magazine and the webpages are for the same product and the same intended audience. Some simple and obvious ways I am going to plan for this is through the consistent use of the same models and the same logos in both the magazine front covers/contents pages as well as the webpages.
One detailed example of this branding is that I am planning to use a similar font and typeface in all of my products because to me the typeface is iconic to a brand because people are able to recognise it with a quick glance. I plan to use a didot font for my magazine and website, the reason being is that these type of fonts are used by other high end fashion magazines which should connect closely with my demographic as they are high class and middle class.
I also plan to use highly appropriate techniques to clearly link both my products, for example the target audience will be directed to exclusive additional website content. This additional content - in the form of a behind the scenes video with the model of the front cover of the magazine shoot on the website. This will then refer back to the magazine, this will hopefully create synergy and brand loyalty between both magazine and webpage.
